FGCU basketball camps set

By Staff | May 9, 2013

Three summer basketball camps, two in June and one in August, have been established at Florida Gulf Coast University by new Eagles coach Joe Dooley.

A team camp on June 14-16 sits between a pair of individual camps on June 10-13 and Aug. 5-7. All three camps will be held on campus at Alico Area, home of Dunk City and the first-ever No. 15 seed in NCAA Tournament history to advance to the Sweet 16.

Both individual camps are open to boys in grades 3-12 and focus on individual improvement, which was a staple at Dooley’s most recent coaching stint at Kansas where the program had 14 players drafted into the NBA over 10 years. Campers will learn individual skill programs that college and NBA players follow to improve their overall game.

The June 10-13 camp costs $200 per camper, while the August camp is $150 per camper.

For more information on the individual camps contact Joey Cantens at 239-590-7067 or jcantens@fgcu.edu.

The team camp, which costs $50 per player, is designed for high school teams to compete and prepare for their upcoming seasons. Each team plays a five-game schedule on Friday and Saturday followed by a single-elimination tournament on Sunday to determine the camp champions.

Teams will be divided into three leagues: large varsity, small varsity and junior varsity. The camp fielded 54 teams last summer, including five that made the Florida State Final Four, and is expected to increase in size.
