CHR reaches out to Casa Mariposa tenants

By Staff | May 9, 2013

Casa Mariposa residents Phyllis and Charles Kelleher enjoyed the garden gazebo gathering hosted by CHR on APril 30.

Community Housing & Resources (CHR) board member Robyn Moran broached the idea at a recent board meeting that the board should do something for the residents at Casa Mariposa.

Something like a social gathering over food and entertainment.

Moran, who was assisting with CHR property inspections, realized that many seniors resided at Casa Mariposa, lived alone and did not “get out” much. She thought it would be nice to get the residents together to mingle and have some fun.

About 20 people attended the “cookout” at the property’s garden gazebo on April 30 to share some good food and each other. Danny Morgan entertained the group with classic songs, including those by John Denver and Steve Goodman.

“It was very thoughtful of Robyn to organize this gathering. What a great way to get CHR staff, board members and residents together,” said Collini. “And it was very nice of Danny Morgan to volunteer his time to make the event really special.”

Several residents said they would like to have a gathering such as this again. A few mentioned that it was an enjoyable afternoon.

CHR board members Richard Johnson, Tim Garmager, Rich McDonnell, Dorothy Donaldson, George Campean and Moran attended the gathering. CHR executive director Kelly Collini and housing administrator Patti Bohm also participated.
