By Staff | Apr 19, 2013

The Cape Coral Police Department is warning of a possible scam being perpetrated at local hospitals. Cape Coral Police received information that an unknown suspect was calling patient rooms at Cape Coral Hospital, pretending to be affiliated with the hospital. The suspect was claiming to be verifying the insurance of the patients and was asking for their Social Security number and other personal information.

Hospital Staff would not obtain patients social security numbers or any other personal information via telephone. Please do not provide your personal information over the phone to anyone claiming to be employed with the hospital while you are a patient.

If you were recently a patient in Cape Coral Hospital and someone called your room and solicited your social security number and/or other personal information, please monitor your bank statements and credit report. If you have been the victim of fraud, please contact the Cape Coral Police Department to file a report.
