Goss team wins MOAA golf benefit

The Lee Coast Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Foundaton held its inaugural Golf Benefit on April 12 at Shell Point.

The team of Scott Logan, Edward Ball III, Porter Goss and Chauncey Goss captured first place with a team score of 62 playing a scramble format against a field of 48 golfers.

A luncheon followed play at the Lighthouse Restaurant, Port Comfort, where all of the winners were recognized.

Taking second, in a card playoff, were Jerry Bartys, Mike Connolly, Bill Miller, Steve Nance with 63. Third went to Ron Campbell, Bill Harrold, Bruce McAbery and Perry Wydman with 63.

A hole-in-one was struck by Chauncey Goss on the 16th hole.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Lee Coast Chapter MOAA Foundation in its continued effort to support several Veterans’ organizations from St. Pete/Tampa area to Sanibel.

Other prizes went to: (Longest drive) Gene Taylor, Janice Whiting; (Closest to pin) Mike Kurzava, Mary Bondurant; (Closest to the line) John Bathke; (Longest putt) Roger Triftshauser.

Membership recruitment is a top priority for the area of Sanibel, Captiva, Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, and South Fort Myers.
