Blades’ Roy wins scoring title

Mathiew Roy of the Florida Everblades captured the ECHL’s season scoring championship with a total of 89 points, which includes 38 goals, 51 assists.

Roy’s career-high 38 goals also led the league this season. Roy becomes the first player since former Everblades forward Kevin Baker in 2008-09 to lead the ECHL in both goals and points. Roy was named to the All-ECHL first team, and was named the ECHL Player of the Month for February.

Additionally, Roy finished the season tied for fourth in the league with 51 assists, tied for fourth with 21 power-play assists and was second with 32 power-play points.

Roy and Will MacDonald each scored twice Saturday night to lead the Everblades to a 6-3 victory over the Orlando Solar Bears in the final game of the regular season at Germain Arena. The win secured home ice advantage in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the Blades.

The Blades, the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, face the Elmira Jackals in a best-of-seven series. The series begins at Germain Arena for the first two games Friday (7:35 p.m.) and Saturday (7 p.m.).

The series then shifts to Elmira for the next three games and, if necessary, returns to Germain Arena on April 15 and 17.
