Man injured in traffic accident discharged from hospital

A Cape Coral man has been discharged from the hospital after the car that he was in rear-ended a van that had stopped for a school bus on U.S. 41.

As of Thursday, Pramanan Somaru, 60, had been released from Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken after last week’s crash just north of Avenue A.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a school bus transporting 26 students was stopped in a southbound lane of U.S. 41 at about 3:38 p.m. March 16. With its lights and signs active, students were disembarking.

At the time, a 2003 Ford Focus van was stopped behind the bus.

According to the FHP, the driver of a 1993 Infinity failed to notice the stopped vehicles ahead in time and tried to brake, but skidded into the rear of the Ford. As a result, the Ford was pushed into the rear of the bus.

One student claimed a possible injury.

The driver of the Infinity, Mahadi Somaru, 52, of Cape Coral, and one passenger, Pramanan Somaru, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Lee Memorial. Mahadi Somaru was treated and released by March 15.

According to the FHP, the driver of the Ford and two passengers were not injured. The driver of the school bus also did not sustain any injuries.

Mahadi Somaru was cited for careless driving.
