The foursome of, from left, Jerry Mader, Gholi Darehshori, Bill Fellows and Bob Ritchlin won Sanibel Island Golf Club's patriotic scramble played Feb. 23.

On Feb. 23 the men’s golf association at Sanibel Island Golf Club played a “patriotic scramble” from the red, white and blue tees.

The team of Bill Fellows, Bob Ritchlin, Jerry Mader, and Gholi Darehshori won with a score of 42.25.

All players in the foursome tee off from the same tees – six from the red markers, six white and six blues. Scoring is like a regular scramble with the average of the team’s handicap deducted from the gross score to determine the team score.

It is an unusual format since the group always play from the white or gold tees, but some can drive the greens from the red tees while the long blue tees present a real challenge.

Finishing second was the team of Bill Stell, Dave Bugby, Bill Sadd and Bill Blankenship with a score wofas 42.75. Fred Zimmer, Dick Chocol, Bill Fetherston and Don Bradford were a close third with 43.
