Captiva dancer opening ballroom

By Staff | Mar 1, 2013

Susan Scott and David Flory.

Captiva resident Susan Scott, who competed in the first “Dancing With the Island Stars” three years ago, is now bringing her joy of dancing to Sanibel and Captiva islands.

Scott and her dance partner, David Flory, have opened a dance studio, Enchanted Ballroom, on Sanibel.

“Dancing is so much more than learning dance steps,” said Scott, who has experienced tremendous health benefits to include weight loss and muscle toning.

Along with their many friendships, Scott and Flory have been fortunate to compete around the world. Last summer they danced the tango in Argentina and went on to Peru to hike the Inca Trail to Manchu Picchu. They won top awards in Buenos Aires, but contend that the Inca Tail was by far their highest challenge.

In the fall they traveled to Hamburg, Germany, to compete in the first European Pro-Am competition with stopoffs in Berlin and a little French cooking in Paris.

Susan’s husband, Craig, also enjoys dancing and realizes that his benefits are more social and health orientated.

Flory recently won Top Teacher in Scottsdale, Ariz., and earned the top title again in Dallas, Texas. He will teach both group and private lessons at their location at 2496 Palm Ridge Road. His instruction includes all the ballroom dances from the waltz, fox trot, and tango to the rumba and swing. At their last competition they added the sassy night club two step to their repertoire which Scott feels is a must for all islanders.

It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or advanced. Brush up on your steps or just have an enchanted evening out. A partner is not necessary for either group of private lessons.
