Man remains hospitalized after driving U-Haul into school bus
A motorist remained hospitalized Friday after he reportedly ran a red light in Cape Coral and hit a school bus that had several students on it.
Bradford Eric Tanner, 49, of 4138 Pine Drop Lane, Apt. B, North Fort Myers, was listed in fair condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, officials reported.
The driver of the school bus, Kevin Lorenzo Stern, 36, of 450 N.W. 14th Ave., did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Two students on the bus did have minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The names and conditions of the students were unknown Friday.
According to police, Tanner was driving a U-Haul north on Santa Barbara Boulevard South at 2:48 p.m. Wednesday, coming to Southeast Eighth Street. At the time, Stern was driving the bus west on Southeast Eighth.
Witnesses reported that Tanner had a red light at the intersection and attempted to brake but could not stop in time. The U-Haul collided into the left side of the school bus, which had approximately 20 students on it.
Tanner, who was unresponsive, was taken to the hospital via ambulance.
Police officials reported that the crash is alcohol or drug related.
The accident remains under investigation.
