Man with gunshot wound to the chest listed in serious condition
A man remained hospitalized Wednesday after apparently showing up in the Cape Coral Hospital emergency room with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Evan Miles Vernadakis, 18, of 4292 Ellen Ave., Fort Myers, was listed in serious condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transferred.
At about 8:43 p.m. Tuesday, Cape police responded to the hospital at 636 Del Prado Blvd. in reference to a report of a man with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers identified Vernadakis as the victim of the reported crime.
According to a report, he had an apparent gunshot wound to the left chest area. Vernadakis told police that the last thing he remembered was taking a shower and getting ready to go out for the night to celebrate the new year.
He reportedly was unable to state when or where he was shot.
Vernadakis could not or would not provided any further information.
Police retrieved his clothing and turned it over to forensics, along with photographs taken of Vernadakis’ injuries, according to the report.
He was later transported to the hospital in Fort Myers.
