Lily & Co. collects food for F.I.S.H.
Lily & Co. Jewelry Gallery on Sanibel Island is collecting non-perishable food items for Friends In Service Here (F.I.S.H.) of Sanibel Food Pantry. During the final four days before Christmas, bring in a donation to help a family have a happy holiday and a camera for a photo with “Dana” Claus and his three reindeer, Angel, Gracie and Lily from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 21, 22, 23 and 24.
“The island community has taught me the gift of giving,” said co-owner Dan Schuyler. “It’s about us as a community helping those in need enjoy the holidays.”
Gallery guests can enjoy special savings on any last-minute Christmas gifts with free gift wrapping. In addition, light refreshments and holiday treats will be served daily. Lily & Co. Jewelry Gallery has supported F.I.S.H. for several years and helping its neighbors is something co-owners Schuyler and Karen Bell have instilled in the company.
“We are so grateful to Lily & Co. for their continued support of FISH over the past 5 years,” said FISH Executive Director Maggie Feiner. “This is a challenging time for many of our clients and keeping our food pantry well stocked has been difficult for us over the past six weeks.”
In 2011, this non-profit organization helped more than 750 clients and with 200 volunteers has delivered numerous services, such as providing 174 holiday meals and assisted 121 families through its food pantry.
“We have more than 120 families on Sanibel and Captiva using the food pantry on a regular basis,” said Feiner. “The food drive at Lily & Co. will really help us keep it stocked and for that we are most grateful.”
In addition to providing meals, F.I.S.H. offers transportation for medical-related appointments, pieces of medical equipment for loan, daily reassurance calls, and visits to homebound clients, emergency financial assistance and client support. Its mission is to lend a helping hand to those in need who live, work or visit Sanibel and Captiva by providing important services free of charge.
F.I.S.H. of Sanibel can always use monetary or food donations to carry out its mission of neighbors helping neighbors. Anyone wishing to make a donation can contact the walk-in center, located at 1630 Periwinkle Way, Unit B, by calling 239-472-4775.
Volunteers are the life and blood of the F.I.S.H. organization. Volunteer opportunities are available in the walk-in center, working the telephones, transportation on and off island and more. Visit fishofsanibel.com for more information about volunteer opportunities or the organization.
