Through Christmas Eve, 14 local businesses will be asking customers if they would like to make a donation to help support affordable housing for island workers. Similar to other national campaigns, individuals have the opportunity to make a donation as they check out at the participating grocery store or pay their tab at the restaurant.

Donors will the choice of signing a “CHR House” card which will be displayed at the participating business.

“We are grateful to the local businesses that have agreed to partner with us,” said Richard McCurry, a member of CHR’s development committee and largely responsible for getting “Home for the Holidays” off the ground.

“People are more than willing to help out,” said McCurry. “It shows that many individuals believe it’s important to provide housing for Island workers.”

“Home for the Holidays” will provide vital operating funds to CHR in providing affordable housing on Sanibel. The development committee is also planning a Mardi Gras Party fundraising event to be held Feb. 9 at the Dunes Golf and Tennis Club.
