Baseball showcase draws pro scouts, recruiters

By Staff | Nov 30, 2012

High school baseball players are invited to showcase their talents at a gathering of

professional baseball scouts and top college coaches at the Pro’s Select Collegiate Clinic on Dec. 7-9 at the Lee County Sports Complex in

Fort Myers.

Pro’s Select has commitments from at least 25 college coaches and professional baseball scouts for the three-day clinic. Last year, 80 players participated, with two receiving scholarships and two making commitments. Overall, 12 players received college letters as a result of participating in the clinic, according to director John Cedarburg.

Registration is $495 per participant and the fee includes check-in on Friday, full-day interactive clinics 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, lunch both days and insurance for each player. Registration is limited so players are encouraged to secure their positions no later than Dec. 3.

The instructional program is designed to improve the skill level of players while offering a unique opportunity to informally talk with coaches and scouts to better understand what is needed to play baseball after high school.

Scouts are committed representing Major League Baseball’s Phillies, Giants and Padres. College coach commitments include Florida Gulf Coast University, East Carolina, University of Miami, Jacksonville, Stetson, Wake Forest, Florida Southern College, High Point, Florida Tech, Flagler College, Nova Southeastern, Florida International, Rhode Island College, Jacksonville State, Georgia Southern, Florida Atlantic, Augusta State, Central Florida, St. Leo, Ave Maria and Florida Memorial.
