Orchid Society meets Nov. 19

The topic for the Nov. 19 meeting of the Sanibel Captiva Orchid Society is “mounting and repotting your orchids. The program is presented by Mickey Carnell, co-owner of Blue Pagoda Orchids in Englewood.

The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Orchid novices are encouraged to come to the meeting at 1 p.m. to hear a member of the society talk about orchid water chemistry.

Participants are encouraged to come early to purchase orchids or to do so during intermission. Anyone with questions or an ill orchid that needs diagnosis can bring their plants to the meeting during show and tell.

Members are invited to participate in a monthly show. Ribbons are awarded for best hybrid and best species orchids. Members and guests are also invited to participate in a monthly orchid raffle. Society membership is $20 which covers the Oct. 2012-May 2013 meetings. Guests are $4.
