Pine Island Library celebrates 50th year
The Friends of the Pine Island Library will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the library and the group’s own 30th anniversary on Wednesday, Nov. 14, with a fun filled afternoon of literary events, children’s programs, music, food and other festivities.
The event is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. at the library, 10700 Russell Road, Pine Island.
Local authors Lisa Black, Phil Buchanan, Dennis Havlin, Denege Patterson, Mary Kaye Stevens, Charles Sobczak and Amy Bennett Williams will present their latest work. An array of activities for children is offered including guest reader Katie Walls, meteorologist from WINK News, appearing at 3:30. Music will be provided by the Pine Island Elementary choir and other musical artists.
Also on display, art work by PI Elementary students illustrating their favorite books.
The Friends of the Pine Island Library, a strong group of 120 members, has raised more than $135,000 since it was organized in 1982. The group provides funding for additional resources such as programming, equipment, children’s summer reading programs and special events including author presentations and support of the Lee County Reading Festival.
