Orchid Society meets Oct. 15

“Getting Your Orchids Ready for Winter” is the topic for the meeting of the Sanibel-Captiva Orchid Society on Monday, Oct. 15.

The program is presented by Tom Uhler, vice president of the Orchid Society. The meeting is at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 2304 Periwinkle Way. This is the Society’s first meeting of the 2012-13 season

Orchid novices are encouraged to come to the meeting at 1 p.m. to hear a member of the Orchid Society talk about orchid problems identified by the speaker during the summer.

Participants are encouraged to come early to purchase orchids or to do so during intermission. Anyone with questions or an “ill orchid” that needs diagnosis can bring their plants to the meeting during Show and Tell. Orchid Society members are invited to participate in a monthly show. Ribbons are awarded for best Hybrid and best Species Orchids.

Members and guests are also invited to participate in a monthly orchid raffle. Society membership is $20 which covers the Oct. 2012-May 2013 meetings. Guests are $4.
