Stingrays set first football tryout

By Staff | Sep 21, 2012

The Florida Stingrays amateur football team has scheduled their first tryout for the 2013 season from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Rutenberg Park in Fort Myers.

The Stingrays are seeking players 18 years or older. The competition to make the team is fierce as evidenced by the number of calls received from players all over Southwest Florida looking to develop their talent and to possibly earn an opportunity to play at the next level.

Several Stingrays players took a step up to the pro level last season with the Southwest Florida Swampdogs of the Stars Football League.

“We want to help these guys to develop the talent God has given them and not only become the best football player they can be, but also to become the best men they can be,” said Stingrays coach Chris Morant.

The cost to try out for the team is just $25. Players are expected to wear athletic shorts and cleats and arrive 10 to 15 minutes early so they have time to fill out the proper paperwork.
