Storm watch: Schools to reopen Tuesday
District schools and offices will reopen Tuesday.
Once Tropical Storm Isaac passed the Southwest Florida area, Lee County Public Schools began its operations to assess the status of the system across the county, officials said.
Staff fanned out to schools and District locations early Monday morning to report back any damage incurred at Lee County Public School facilities while, at the same time, reviewing the surrounding infrastructure necessary for the District to operate (e.g. roadways, power lines, etc.)
Reports show very minimal impact of the storm on District schools and facilities. Based on this survey by District staff, Lee County Public Schools will reopen effective Tuesday, August 28
All students, faculty and staff are to report to school or their work location as normal Tuesday
While the weather will improve throughout the course of the day Monday, the decision to close schools for the day was made based on the projections of Emergency Management Officials as the storm approached our area. Given weather reports early Monday morning from across the county the time students would be waiting for school buses, walking or riding their bikes to school and staff would be heading to work that decision proved to be the right one as there was severe weather still impacting the area, officials said, adding such decisions are made with the safety of students, faculty, staff and the community as the primary focus and they are made with an abundance of caution.
