Deputies seeking men who robbed taxi driver in Lehigh

Lee County deputies are seeking two men who choked, beat, and robbed a taxi driver in Lehigh Acres Saturday.

The incident occurred July 28, at 12:48 a.m. the area of Alabama Road and Arthur Avenue. Deputies spoke with the victim, who is a taxi driver for Blue Bird Taxi. He said he had picked up two passengers who were waiting in front of a vacant residence on Alabama Road South. While the victim was driving, the passengers asked him to stop in front of a residence on Arthur Avenue so one of them could obtain money from a family member for the cab fare.

Once the victim stopped the taxi in the driveway, the passengers began to choke and beat the victim, stating that they were armed with a gun. The passengers demanded the victim’s money and were able to obtain an undisclosed amount of cash during the robbery. The suspects also removed the keys from the vehicle’s ignition and then fled the area on foot.

A search of the area was conducted by K-9 and Aviation Units, but no one matching the suspects’ description was located.

The first suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, 30-35 years old, medium height, approximately 200 pounds (stocky build) with short dark brown or black hair. He was wearing a dark colored T-shirt and a pair of dark shorts with a checkered or plaid design.

The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male, possibly of Puerto Rican descent, 32-37 years old, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, 225-240 pounds (husky build), with dark brown or black hair, brown eyes, thick eyebrows and a trimmed goatee. He was wearing a black ball cap facing to the side, white tank top and black baggy pants.

The victim advised that both suspects had thick Northeastern accents.
