A Cape Coral woman was charged with multiple counts of DUI after she crashed into a motorcycle and sent the driver to the hospital with injuries.

Julie Lynn Palmonka, 29, of 321 N.E. 30th St., was arrested and charged Friday with DUI and DUI with serious bodily injury to another, as well as two counts of DUI with property damage. She remains at the jail without bond.

Lt. Greg Bueno, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, reported that a call came in at 4:09 a.m. Friday for a crash at Island Park Road and U.S. 41.

Ryan Marten, 23, of Fort Myers, who was headed northbound on 41 on a 2008 Suzuki, was stopped at a traffic light at Island Park. While stopped, a 2006 Isuzu pickup truck, driven by Palmonka, approached from the rear.

“She was approaching from behind and failed to stop in time,” Bueno said.

The pickup truck struck the rear of the motorcycle, causing damage.

Bueno reported that Marten was transported with life-threatening injuries to Lee Memorial Hospital. He did not know if Marten had been wearing a helmet.

Hospital officials said Marten was in serious condition Friday evening.

The motorcycle was towed from the scene.

Palmonka was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail.

She has a court appearance scheduled for July 2.
