The 23rd Annual Caloosa Catch & Release returns to Captiva
For decades, fishing tournaments like the Caloosa Catch & Release have set the standards by which all top tournaments are measured. Since 1989, the core element that has made the Caloosa Catch & Release so popular is the diverse individuals have remained unchanged all are welcome no matter age, gender or level of skill.
“The foundation that the Caloosa has always maintained is to make everyone feel welcome and never intimated,” said Tournament Director Ron Riley. “We have always provided a fair purse and a great experience for all participants. It has been a primary objective to create memories, relationships and friendships for everyone.”
The Caloosa will return to its birthplace on Captiva and will take on a more rustic, island theme utilizing the Celebration Center on Andy Rosse Lane, as well as the legendary Jensen’s Marina where the weigh station will be located for fishing days June 22-23.
“The location is perfect and where so many anglers tournament fish,” said Riley. “The ambiance of the island can’t be beat and it is a great place for our anglers and families to simply disappear”
Throughout the past 23 years, the Caloosa has survived no name storms, hurricanes and terrible economic times; however, it has constantly evolved and adapted in order to maintain its high standards and to provide memorable experiences for everyone.
“One example,” pointed out Riley on how the Caloosa has adapted to changing times, “This year the entry fee is the lowest in 23 years, while still maintaining great prize money. We set the bar by establishing a unique event that is focused on fishing.
In all cases, we adapted and tried hard to deliver an event that we all should be proud ofThis has become increasingly difficult, yet we never lose our focus,” said Riley.
The Caloosa Tournament Series has provided more than $1,250,000 in prize money to anglers and more than $460,000 in cash and in-kind donations to 50 organizations in Southwest Florida.
“We are very proud,” said Riley. “There are so many needs in our community and when you look at so many companies and businesses that contribute, the Caloosa organization stands with the best of them. We are happy to have helped wherever and whenever possible.”
