Sanibel nature author presents Shell Point class

By Staff | Jun 8, 2012

Charles Sobczak

Shell Point’s Academy of Lifelong Learning invites the public to attend a class presented by Charles Sobczak about the nature of Southwest Florida at 9 a.m. on July 11.

This free one-hour class takes place in the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands in Shell Point Retirement Community. Space is very limited, so reservations are required by calling (239) 489-8472.

Sobczak, a Sanibel nature author, has written and published three books about the natural paradise in Southwest Florida, highlighting alligators, sharks, panthers, wildlife on Sanibel Island and wildlife on the gulf coast. All of his books are filled with wonderful photos and anecdotes presented in a serious, yet humorous manner. Sobczak’s books will be available for purchase after the class.

“As Floridians, we live in a paradise and have so many beautiful creatures and foliage around us, and we are so pleased that Charles will take us through this presentation to understand our natural neighbors,” said Teri Kollath, academy and volunteer services manager. “This is the second time we have had Mr. Sobczak with us to speak, and we know that those who attend will love what he has to offer.”

The Academy of Life Long Learning at Shell Point is an educational initiative for the residents of the retirement community. The Academy provides anywhere from 70 to 90 classes each semester, that encompasses a well-rounded curriculum of educational opportunities for senior adults. The academy was named as one of 2008’s most innovative active aging programs by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), an association that supports professionals who develop wellness/fitness facilities and services for age 50-plus adults.

Shell Point is located about two miles before the Sanibel causeway.
