Paddleboarders donate to Special Olympics

By Staff | Jun 1, 2012

A local Stand-Up Paddleboard club has donated more than $2,000 to assist local Special Olympics athletes.

The $2,494.73 check from the Southwest Florida SUP Club to Lee County Parks & Recreation’s Dorothy Barilla, who coordinates Lee County’s Special Olympics, will be used to assist athletes with uniforms, equipment and travel expenses.

The check represents the proceeds of the Body Glove CaluSUP Race on May 5, which drew 41 competitors to Fort Myers Beach for two races and an SUP day full of events, including introducing Special Olympians to the sport of SUP.
