The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) at the Sanibel School is conducting two community service projects.

Collection dates for food items for the Friends in Service Here (FISH) program “Blessing in a Backpack” are May 7-17 at designated bins within each classroom or in the Sanibel School office.

Food items needed include individual servings of ready-to-eat meals:, snacks, apple sauce, soups, granola bars, juice boxes, ravioli, gold fish type snacks, mac ‘n Cheese, Raman noodles, sugar-free snacks, fruit cups, tuna, oatmeal and cereal

For more information on the food drive call Diane Cortese at 472-1617 or email dianerc@leeschools.net

NJHS also is asking for gently used library books and standard school supplies for the K-12 school in Henryville, Ind., that was destroyed by tornadoes. Supplies include rulers, pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, colored pencils, crayons, etc.

That collection runs until May 24 and items can be dropped off at any classroom or the Sanibel School’s front office.
