Hanser receives top Chamber award

The Sanibel Captiva Chamber of Commerce handed out awards and appointed three members to the Board of Directors at its annual membership meeting at Tween Waters Inn on April 17.

Al Hanser, CEO of Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, was named the Business of the Year, the chamber’s top award. Traditions on the Beach received the New Business of the Year award.

Tom Uhler, of Uhler & Vertich Financial Planners, was named the Citizen of the Year award winner while Billy Kirkland was named the Susan Rosica Gray Volunteer of the Year.

Michael Miller was appointed to chair the board of directors for the coming year and welcomes the three new board appointees Dona Puma (Pinocchio’s Ice Cream), Chris Davison (Island Inn general manager) and Sonja Smith (Condominium Associations of Sanibel).

Puma, Davison and Smith replace retiring board members Barm Harrington (Royal Shell Properties), Danny Adams (Holiday Inn) and Lee Ellen Harder (Big Arts).

Harder will remain on the board as secretary emeritus.
