By Staff | Apr 20, 2012

A small sailboat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico just southwest of the Sanibel Lighthouse point within sight of the beach on April 12, but both occupants reached shore uninjured, according to the U.S. Coast Guard Rescue on Fort Myers Beach.

The Coast Guard responded to several frantic calls received from the public about 5 p.m. By the time they arrived on the scene, within 10 minutes, the sailboat had been righted and the man and a child that had been on board had reached the shore safely.

A Sanibel Police unit was on the scene to check on the boaters, who were not identified and did not require medical treatment.
