Paula Ruocco, 68, of Sanibel, died early Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Shell Point Hospice in South Fort Myers. She was born in Nutley, NJ, and later resided in Chester, NJ, before moving to Sanibel Island 12 years ago.
Paula earned her RN at Orange Memorial Nursing School, Orange, NJ, and later a bachelor’s degree at Upsala College and a master’s degree in Counseling and Human Services at Montclair State College.
She was an RN and former head nurse of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center at St. Clare’s Hospital, Denville, NJ, for 24 years. Later professional endeavors included consulting hospital administration.
With Lorraine, Paula sought to enjoy life while she could still climb the mountains, hike, bike, and travel the world.
She leaves behind her life partner of 34 years, Lorraine Mazzucco, their son, Anthony Ruocco, his wife, Caro and grandchild, AJ, all of Tampa, their daughter, Tara Ruocco and grandson, Ethan, of Laurel, Md., and her sister, Ruth Sammon of Ormond Beach, Fla.
Friends of Paula and Lorraine are invited to a celebration of Paula’s life at The Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11 a.m.
