Cape Coral city manager position to be filled next week

By Staff | Mar 17, 2012

About the only thing that hasn’t changed is the schedule for the prospective city manager candidates.

Published reports of as many as three more possible candidates thus far hasn’t touched the plans for the candidates when they visit the Cape on Thursday and Friday.

The candidates will tour the city and have more informal interviews on Thursday before attending a reception at the Yacht Club at 5 p.m., which will be their first public appearance.

On Friday, the city council will hold individual interviews with the candidates in the morning and early afternoon before all appear in city council chambers for a group interview to begin at 4 p.m. Again, the special meeting is open to the public.

On Monday, March 26, the council will deliberate on the candidates in a special meeting at 2 p.m., at which point the council is expected (though not guaranteed) to make a final decision.

The six candidates provided to the city by its search firm are Ed Green, county manager of Garfield County, Colo.; Barbara Lipscomb, city manager of Casselberry, Fla.; Mark Needham, current special assistant to the governor of Kentucky; Leonard Sossaman, former city manager of Concord, N.C.; John Szerlag, city manager of Troy, Mich.; and Buford “Randy” Witt, former interim city manager of South Miami.
