Cape man charged in grow house bust

By Staff | Mar 16, 2012

A Cape Coral man was arrested Thursday after police served a search warrant at his home and discovered marijuana and marijuana plants.

Javier Hernandez, 53, of 3829 Agualinda Blvd., was charged with marijuana traffic excess of 25 pounds or 300 plants or more. As of Friday, Hernandez remained at the Lee County Jail on $30,000 bond, according to jail records.

At about 3 p.m. Thursday, Cape officers discovered a possible marijuana grow house operation at 3829 Agualinda Blvd. Surveillance was set up, and when Hernandez arrived at the home at 5:10 p.m., officers made contact.

During questioning, Hernandez told police that there was an elaborate marijuana grow house operation inside, according to CCPD officials.

A search warrant was obtained. Police executed the warrant and found more than 113 pounds of marijuana and 20 mature plants inside of the garage.

Hernandez was taken into custody and transported to the county jail.

“Excellent teamwork between the alert patrol officers, who quickly realized indicators of a grow house, and the narcotics detectives, who continue to take down these operations,” Lt. Tony Sizemore, with the Cape police, said.

“This was not in an isolated area; this criminal operation was set up in the southwest Cape,” he continued. “Probably the first one in the 33914.”

Hernandez has a court appearance scheduled for March 16.
