Cape Coral police to conduct ‘saturation patrol’ for holiday weekend

By Staff | Mar 15, 2012

The Cape Coral Police Department is encouraging everyone to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day, but warns people not to drink and drive.

Officers will conduct a traffic saturation patrol on Friday, March 16, from Happy Hour until 2am. Officers will patrol the streets, looking for impaired drivers.

“There are many great bars and restaurants in Cape Coral that will have St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. We encourage citizens to go out and enjoy what Southwest Florida has to offer, we just want you to get home safely. If you are going to drink, please designate a sober driver or take a taxi,” said Captain Lisa Barnes, commander of the Special Operations Bureau, in a prepared statement.

The department offers the following tips for a safe holiday weekend”

Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin and designate a sober driver.

If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely.

If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement.

And remember, if you know people who are about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.
