By Staff | Feb 9, 2012

Police have identified the pedestrian who was struck and then run over by an SUV Wednesday evening as Robert M. Viczoreck, 44, of Cape Coral Parkway East #209,

Viczoreck died on scene due to the extent of his injuries, Cape Coral police said.

According to police, the SUV, a 2010 Ford Expedition driven by Evaristo Alvarez, 73, of 121 SE 43 Terrace, was westbound on Cape Coral Parkway from the Cape Coral Parkway bridge in the inside lane shortly before 4:30 p.m.

A second vehicle, a 2011 Kia Optima operated by Daniel Jackson, 24, of 3919 S.W. 14 Ave., was also westbound on the parkway from the Cape Coral Parkway bridge. The Kia was in the outside lane.

Viczoreck was standing on the sidewalk at Southeast 17th Avenue.

According to witnesses and evidence, all traffic came to stop heading west during the rush hour traffic.

The Expedition wished to change lanes into the middle lane. Traffic was stopped and allowed the driver into the middle lanes. The Expedition then wished to continue to the right and turn right onto Southeast 17 Avenue.

The SUV entered into the outside lane of Cape Coral Parkway and drove directly in front of the Kia that was still traveling west, according to police.

The driver of the Kia attempted to stop, skidded, and the front left of the vehicle struck the front right of the Expedition. The SUV was redirected toward the west and drove onto the sidewalk where it struck Viczoreck, then continued forward several feet before driving onto a raised grassy area and striking a business sign.

After a couple of seconds, the Expedition began to back up off of the sign. The front right tire of the SUV rode onto and over Viczoreck, causing fatal injuries, police said.

A CCPD Traffic Homicide investigator responded.

There were no signs of impairment by either driver. Neither driver was injured.

Traffic Homicide Investigation is being conducted, officials said.
