The Animal Refuge Center is teaming up with the Pet Coral Resort & Veterinary and the city of Cape Coral to present a pet, family fun and adoption event – Love Fest 4 Pets.

The festival will be held at the Sun Splash Family Waterpark in Cape Coral Saturday, Feb. 11. All proceeds will benefit ARC – the area’s largest no-kill animal shelter, located in North Fort Myers.

“The event is intended to celebrate and encourage the adoptions of shelter animals,” said ARC Volunteer Coordinator Caroline Clay. “We plan to have many activities for the family and pets, including dog dock diving, wiener dog racing, agility demonstrations and K9 police demonstrations.”

Other highlights include a beer garden, food vendors and a deejay.

Many other rescue organizations will be attending, including Lee County Animal Services and Golden Retriever Rescue of Florida.

Organizers said they will have many activities for the family and adoption opportunities that day.

“We plan on having about 100 dogs there from the different rescues,” Clay said. “ARC also plans on bringing at least 14 puppies, people are always interested in puppies. We have quite a variety of dogs out here, too.”

ARC currently houses over 450 cats and dogs in need.

“There will also be discounted pet vaccinations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We would like to see what vaccinations they (pets) are current on,” she added.

Brian Aponte is the coordinator for the event from Pet Coral Resort & Veterinary.

“We got involved with ARC because we believe in their cause,” he said. “We are a new business, and we wanted to give back to the community.”

The facility is a 30,000-square-foot luxury pet resort and more.

“Our business is a state-of-the-art facility that opened in November. It is located on Del Prado Boulevard, just south of Viscaya, where you can get all your pet animal service needs in one location at affordable prices,” he said,

The facility also features a dog water park.

Aponte noted the other groups and fun demonstrations to be featured at the event.

There will be the Ultimate Air Dogs dock jumping events, wiener dog races hosted by the Florida Wiener Dog Derby and the Pet Coral K-9 Arena demonstrations. Also, the Cape Coral Police will bring their K-9 Unit.

“The public is invited with their entire family including children and pets, and to bring their pets as long as they are leashed,” he said.

Admission is a $2 donation or a $5 donation for the entire family and there is free parking. Free admission passes can also be picked up at Pet Coral Resort & Veterinary, located at 924 Del Prado Blvd., S., in Cape Coral.

Sun Splash Family Waterpark is located at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd., S., in Cape Coral.
