Cape Coral Art League to hold Art Festival today and Sunday
The Cape Coral Art League has been around for more than 40 years, engaging and teaching the community about the arts.
Its boasts more than 300 members, all of them learning, teaching and growing as artists as well as in their role as stewards for the public.
For the second straight year, the League will bring its brand of community service to the masses with a two-day arts festival.
More than 1,000 people attended last year, according to event co-chair Barb Valentine, who expects this year to be successful, too.
She said the art festival also is an attempt to raise their profile, but also serves as a fund raiser for the decades-old non-profit organization.
“We’re trying to serve the whole community, but at the same time become better known,” Valentine said. “We want people to know the Art League exists and how fun it is.”
Thirty-five artists will have their creations and wares on display, according to League President Susie Nelke.
Multiple art forms will be represented, she said, the majority of which were created by League members themselves.
The event is free, but raffle tickets will be available for sale, as will art and food. A host of Corvettes will also be on display for car enthusiasts.
Some of the raffle items include gift baskets from John Michael’s Jewelry, certificates for restaurants and from Diamonds by Diane.
Money raised will to go toward Art League operations, but also to their scholarship fund, which provides for students who want to continue their art education.
“We raise money through the year to award to Cape Coral students who are continuing a career path of being in the arts,” Nelke added.
Valentine praised Art League members, who she said give their all to the organization on a daily basis.
Annually, they host art shows and major workshops, inviting both nationally and internationally known masters to teach at their studio.
Valentine said the art festival, along with the day-to-day operations of the Art League itself, are made possible, in part, by the supreme generosity of the business community.
“The small businesses in this area have been amazing,” Valentine said. “I’m just so proud of this community.”
The Cape Coral Art League’s second annual Art Festival is Jan 28 29, 10 a.m. 4 p.m., 516 Cultural Park Blvd. For more information call 772-2222. Admission is free.
