DCF investigating incident involving child with skull fracture
Authorities are investigating an incident that occurred last month in Cape Coral and involved a head injury to a young child, according to officials.
On Dec. 22, the Department of Children and Families received a report from All-Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg about an infant that had sustained a skull fracture in Cape and was transferred to the facility for treatment.
An officer with the Cape police met with the child’s parents after he was released from the hospital and obtained a statement concerning the incident, a report states. Details of the alleged incident were not available Thursday.
A DCF investigator was assigned the case and an investigation initiated.
“We do have an ongoing investigation with that family,” DCF spokeswoman Terri Durdaller said, noting that the department responds to calls of alleged abuse, neglect or abandonment.
She could not provide details of the investigation per department policy.
“We deal with each family individually and access the well-being of the child,” she said, adding that investigations typically wrap up within 60 days.
The child appeared to be in the family’s care as of Thursday.
