Tribeca Salon offers islanders complete salon experience
In an economic time when businesses are closing up shop, Tribeca Salon has opened its doors a little wider to serve the Sanibel Island community and visitors.
Earlier this year, the unisex salon expanded its space within The Village Shops shopping plaza and created a dulcet ambiance that matches the style of Sanibel Island. Tribeca offers precision hair cuts to men and women, expert hair coloring, manicures and two pedicure stations that are complete with massage chairs to relax your day away and it’s all under one roof.
“I find it peaceful in this friendly, family business, said Christina Struckmeyer, a loyal Tribeca customer who splits her time between the island and Miami. “I saw my friend’s hair after she had it done at Tribeca, she shared. “After my first visit, I stopped using my Miami hair dresser.”
Salon owner Domizio Melchiorre has found that despite being located on an island known for its seasonal influx of tourists and part-time residents, Tribeca’s prices for their services are competitive to off-island hair salons. A man’s haircut is $20; a woman’s cut-and-style including a wash costs $55; a manicure is $15; and pedicures run $40 and up. Pamper yourself with a spa mani and pedi including a moisturizing leg massage and chair massage for only $55.
“We have filled the void of a true ‘community’ hair salon when we came here, Melchiorre said. “And when season ends, we’ll still be here.”
Melchiorre, who is a master colorist and trained in Sassoon hair cutting and techniques, hopes that together with island businesses can build the local economy and sustain themselves separately from off-island businesses. In addition to Melchiorre’s talents behind the chair, his son Nick specializes in women and men’s precision hair cuts at the full-service salon.
“What keeps me coming back to Domizio is the way he styles my look, and that definitely includes the fabulous color, said Katie Stephens, who followed Melchiorre from Fort Myers to his wonderful salon on Sanibel Island. “His ability to assess my changing ‘needs’ have left me feeling confident, comfortable and, most certainly, stylishly current.”
Tribeca opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and accepts walk-ins. If you find yourself working late, but still need a salon service, Tribeca is open late on Thursdays or you can make a late appointment.
“I also love (Tribeca’s) products,” said Stephens. “My hair has never looked better, shinier, healthy and youthful. One appointment will make you a satisfied follower, too.”
Tribeca is located in The Village Shops, at 2340 Periwinkle Way on Sanibel. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call the salon at 395-3800.
