Cape man involved in traffic accident in Collier County

By Staff | Oct 12, 2011

A man was hospitalized Wednesday after colliding into a tractor-trailer in Collier County that was being operated by a Cape Coral resident.

Eleus Bellot, 68, of Naples, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries after being extracted from his vehicle, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He was listed in fair condition later in the day.

At about 6 a.m., Bellot was traveling west on Enterprise Avenue in a Dodge Dakota when a Kenworth tractor-trailer, driven by Octavio Gomez, 69, of Cape Coral, pulled out from the driveway access at 4309 Enterprise Ave.

Gomez pulled the tractor and half of the trailer onto the eastbound lane of Enterprise Avenue, but half of it was still obstructing the westbound lane.

According to the report, Bellot failed to observe that the trailer was still obstructing his lane and did not stop. The front of the Dodge struck the left rear of the trailer. Fire crews had to cut the truck’s roof to remove Bellot.

Gomez was not injured in the accident.

The crash area has street lights, and both vehicles had their lights on.

FHP officials reported that the roadway was obstructed until shorty before 9 a.m. as repairs had to be made to the brake lines of the tractor-trailer.
