A 12-gauge shotgun was apparently found Monday by a city roadway.

At about 8:10 a.m., Cape Coral police responded to a report of found property in the 900 block of Northeast 10th Lane. A man stated that he found a shotgun lying by the road in an empty field, then pointed it out.

Police recovered the Winchester shotgun and ran its serial number.

The gun was not reported stolen, according to a police report.
