Man follows woman home, steals jewelry from her
A Cape Coral woman was reportedly robbed of $2,200 in jewelry when she allowed an unknown man into her residence to use her bathroom.
On Tuesday, police responded to a report of a robbery in the 4700 block of Southeast First Place. The woman told officers that two weeks earlier, a man stole an engagement ring, wedding band and charm bracelet from her.
She explained that she was walking home from a local bar on Sept. 7 when she encountered the man in the 500 block of Southeast 47th Terrace. He asked where she was headed and she told him home, a police report states.
The man reportedly followed her home and then asked if he could use her bathroom. The woman allowed him into her residence and she went into the kitchen. When he exited the bathroom, he reportedly asked for the jewelry.
She told police that she handed over the items to avoid anything physical.
According to the report, the man ran out the front door and she chased after him. She did not see where the man went. She said he never used any force toward her and he did not threaten her into giving him her jewelry.
She reportedly did not file a police report at the time because she was intoxicated, and she finally decided to file one at the urging of friends.
The woman gave police a shirt the man reportedly left behind.
