Season winding down at Sun Splash Waterpark
Sun Splash Family Waterpark is entering the back half of what has thus far been a successful season, preparing to adjust operating hours starting Aug. 8 to coincide with the return of Lee County students to their classrooms.
The regular summer hours at the park will be in effect until Sunday, Aug. 7.
Park manager Sandie Greiner said attendance is slightly ahead of where it was last year despite having more days shortened by rain. Through Aug. 1, the park has made $89,411 in revenue, Greiner added.
As a second year in the manager’s seat come to a close for Greiner, she said a number of new activities have helped to raise awareness of the park and win over new fans while giving repeat visitors something new to experience.
“I think we did all the right things this year,” Greiner said. “We brought back things that were popular and canned others that weren’t.”
Family Fun Nights have proved popular, as have the “Aqua Theater” nights when family friendly movies are shown on a giant inflatable screen and the park attractions remain open for enjoyment.
Another highly popular event this year that was also new was the appearance of Nickelodeon character “Spongebob Square Pants.”
The character’s appearance was a first at Sun Splash and because the park was packed, Greiner is thinking about what type of similar events could be scheduled for 2012. Greiner said she is thinking of trying to book “Radio Disney” to make an appearance.
It’s all about “added value” at Sun Splash, Greiner said, a concept that is aimed at giving people more for their money. Aqua Theater nights are another example.
“You would spend the same amount to go see a movie but at Sun Splash you get the park and the movie,” Greiner said.
The park will remain open through Sept. 25, but starting Aug. 8 the park will be open only on the weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
However, two “Aqua Theater” and Family Fun Nights remain. “Aqua Theater Nights” will be held Aug. 26 and Sept. 23, from 6-10 p.m. Family Fun Night is for Aug. 13 and Sept. 10, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
