Hair FX Studio to hold benefit cut-a-thon Sunday
A Cape Coral hair salon is holding a cut-a-thon this weekend to benefit the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
The event will be held at Hair FX Studio, 3812 Skyline Blvd., from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7.
Hair cuts for children under 10 years old will cost $7 and $10 for teenagers and adults. Women who have long hair will be charged a little more for their hair cut.
An express manicure for $10 will also be available during the event, along with brow waxing for $10.
No appointments are necessary for those who want to receive a hair cut during the cut-a-thon. Customers will be served on a first-come first-served basis.
There will be five stylists and one nail technician on hand Sunday during the cut-a-thon.
Owner Susan Murphy said the cut-a-thons that the salon has held in the past have been very successful, averaging $500 raised for the different organizations chosen as the beneficiary.
She said she hopes to hold a cut-a-thon every three months to benefit a different organization.
“Every three months we want to pick an organization that needs funding,” Murphy said.
This time the salon wants to benefit the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, she said, because there have been a lot of people in the business that have died from AIDS, including some friends. Murphy said they wanted to raise funds to benefit those living with the disease.
Murphy hopes to hold another cut-a-thon in October to raise funds for breast cancer.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which initially began in 1987 as the AIDS Hospice Foundation, was started by small group of grassroots activists who were watching patients die on the streets of Los Angeles. The global organization now has more than 800 staff members and operates 14 healthcare centers, 11 pharmacies and a disease management program in Florida serving the states HIV/AIDS medicaid population.
