10 people rescued Saturday from sinking boat off St. James City
A boat with 10 people — including children — onboard took on water Saturday, prompting the occupants’ rescue by Lee deputies and the Coast Guard.
About 3:20 p.m. the Coast Guard called Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies and said there was a 21-foot Sea Ray taking on water near Picnic Island, St. James City, near markers five and six, according to information provided by the Sheriff’s Office.
The vessel was partially submerged, but aground in about four feet of water. All of the people on board wore life jackets, according to the report.
The children on board were removed and taken to Picnic Island.
Sea Tow was called and would removed the vessel for the owners.
No injuries were reported.
A crash report was not available Monday.
