Poetic License: Stopping by the Dunes on a Rainy Evening

By Staff | Jul 14, 2011

Jaleel Pacheco Al-Ahmar

Whose tooth this was I think I know,

His house is in the Dunes, although

He may not mind my stopping here

Before his new tooth starts to grow.

My flying horse must think it queer

I found a front tooth lying near

The golf course and the hazard lake

On July second of this year,

He gives his flapping wings a shake —

I tell him there is no mistake,

The shepherd boy of Palestine

Has left this toothy Valentine.

I’d like to help him count his sheep,

But I have promises to keep

To boys and girls while they’re asleep,

To boys and girls while they’re asleep.

(Poem left by the Sanibel Tooth Fairy)
