Carole Anita Boone passed away on June 20, 2011, surrounded by her loved ones in her dream home on Sanibel Island.
She was born Sept. 10 ,1933, attended Michigan State University, where she met her sweetheart, John, and was married for nearly 60 years. She was a member of Tuesday Musicale, Northeast Guidance Center of Detroit, La Leche League and University Women’s Club. She sang in the Sanibel Community Choir, and was a member of the Orchid Society of Sanibel.
Anita was passionate about children, organic gardening and the arts. She was a much loved piano teacher of children and adults. A pioneer in healthy living, whole foods and the slow food movement. A composter and avid bird watcher, she delighted in all types of birds that frequented her yard. A conservationist who annually planted trees on her northern Michigan home as well as on her property in Sanibel. Forty years ago, she began practicing yoga and never stopped. She swam daily, adored the ocean and walking the beach. Her presence enlightened all those around with her broad knowledge, loving and caring manner.
She is survived by her husband John, and four children and their spouses: Victoria and David Horsley, Randolph Boone, Rebecca and James Knotts, and Elizabeth Boone, as well as her seven grandchildren: Tanner, John, and James Horsley, Madeline and Will Boone, and Caroline and Jameson Knotts.
