North Fort Myers Community Pool kicks off summer season

By Staff | Jun 20, 2011

The North Fort Myers Community Pool officially kicked off the summer season Saturday with a summer safety event – Safe Pool Day.
“We taught the public water safety, and how to use life jackets properly,” said Senior Aquatics Supervisor Christie Davis. “The reason this is so important is that the state of Florida leads the country in drowning deaths in children one to four years old.”
On hand were Courtney Ronieri, coordinator of the Kohl’s Center for Safety and representative of the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida and Betty Clark, a volunteer for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers who provided instruction and information with pool staff.
Summer hours officially started Saturday and are now Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
You can look for your favorite lifeguards to be back. “We have all returning lifeguards,” said Senior Recreation Specialist and Assistant Supervisor Trever Snearley. “They are a mix of high school and college students and graduates — a mix of everyone.”
There will also be Learn To Swim classes Monday through Thursday, Saturdays and Sundays and two evenings a week — Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will go through mid-August.
The cost is $40 for eight lessons. Call for details.
“We also will continue to have morning aerobics classes every day, Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. and Arthritis Aquasize on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m.,” Snearley said. “We have a new session starting every two weeks.”
Aquasize is an impact-free exercise class which improves strength, flexibility and endurance.
“Junior Lifeguard classes will also be coming up in the end of July,” Davis added.
Davis said to check the website leeparks.org for specific information and times for all activities.
Admission to the pool is $1.50 for children 18 and under, $2.50 for adults and $2 for seniors 50 and older.
The pool is at 5170 Orange Grove Blvd. The phone number is 652-4520.
