Candidate announces in District 2

By Staff | May 18, 2011

John Carioscia has announced his candidacy for Cape Coral City Council, District 2.
According to his announcement statement, Carioscia is running because he “is frustrated with the current rubber stamping that has been the theme of most city council meetings.”
“Now is the time for leadership and as a strong proven leader, leadership is what I bring to the table,” he said.
Now retired, he said he has gained insight to the inner workings of the city by both being employed in the community development department and by graduating from the city’s Citizens Academy Ambassador Program.
A seven-year resident, Carioscia retired from the Chicago Police Department after a 37-year career. As a lieutenant he commanded many specialized units within the department. He said he also brings to the table certification from the University of Illinois in Executive Development and from Northwestern University, in Executive Management.
“I feel it is time that we improve our industrial base, keep our emergency services at the highest level of readiness and staff our city management positions with qualified, experienced leaders,” he said, adding he feels that this can be done without a millage increase.
“Money is not the problem, spending is,” Carioscia said.
He has been married for 43 years to his wife Judy; they have four adult children.
His release says he enjoys his family, softball, music, fishing, golf and playing in a local blues band.
He invites residents to come meet him at the Sunset Celebration at the Cape Coral Yacht Club on June 1 between 5 and 8 p.m.
