Coffee Bar @ Bailey’s hosting Barista Challenge on Sunday

By Staff | Apr 27, 2011

The Coffee Bar @ Bailey’s will host its third ever Barista Challenge on Sunday, May 1 beginning at 5 p.m. Last October, the barista’s were commissioned to create a new drink, which was based on creativity and taste. The winner was Maddy Maloy with her Irish Cream Mocha Bianca.

The Barista Challenge this year will consist of seven talented baristas showcasing and sampling each of their own creations for the spring menu. The drinks may range from espresso based, tea based, or a smoothie based beverage. Any ingredients within the Coffee Bar are eligible for use in this competition.

Sanibel and Captiva residents and guests are invited to attend this friendly competition. Special goodies will be given to all in attendance, and a chance to win great prizes from the Coffee Bar such as retail, espresso beans, chocolates and free drinks.

In addition, there will be Latte Art demonstrations plus new menu items featured at the Coffee Bar starting this summer. Samples of each baristas drink entry will be given out, and the audience will be asked to vote in the people’s choice.

Our panel of judges will vote on their favorite. The judges consist of Sanibel locals and some who entered the Coffee Bar @ Bailey’s BE THE JUDGE contest throughout April. Each judge is a knowledgeable coffee enthusiast. Some second time judges are Bridgit Stone-Budd of the Sanibel & Captiva Chamber of Commerce and Island Reporter executive editor Jeff Lysiak.

“We’re excited for the event,” said Coffee Bar manager Quinton Foshee. “It’s fun for the team and fun for the community. Last time we had a good crowd, which included a lot of our regulars. We’re hoping to see everyone on May 1st.”

The Coffee Bar @ Bailey’s is located at 2477 Periwinkle Way on Sanibel, inside of Bailey’s General Store. It is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
