By Staff | Apr 12, 2011

At 9:27 p.m. Monday, Cape Coral police were called regarding a robbery at the Citgo at 805 Cape Coral Parkway E. Numerous calls from witnesses as well as the clerk were received.
The clerk told police that he had stepped outside for a moment when he was approached by a man. The man pushed the clerk back inside as he shouted at him. The man told the clerk to “open the register, give me the money or I’ll shoot you!”
The man had a cell phone up to his ear and one hand behind his back, to insinuate that he was armed.
The clerk opened the register out of fear. The man reached into the register and took the $5 and $10 dollar bills. The man then shoved the money into his left pocket and walked out of the store.
Officers canvassed the area and found witnesses that described two men just prior to the robbery loitering behind the store. Police also received a tip.
As the man was committing the robbery, he was indeed on the telephone. The person on the other end called police and told them that Bo Daniel Jones, 21, of Bonita Springs, had just committed a robbery.
At that time, officers had set up a perimeter on the downtown area. Officers observed a man fitting the description of the alleged robber in the area of Southeast Ninth Place and Southeast 46th Lane. Police detained the man, along with another man and woman that they were with.
The man that matched the description of the robber was identified as Jones.
Jones was searched and was found to be in possession of $220 dollars, all in denominations of $5 and $10. All of the money was shoved in his left pocket.
Witnesses brought to where Jones was detained positively identified him as the robber. Jones was brought to police headquarters along with the other man, later identified as John Joseph Rice, 47, of Cape Coral, and the woman.
During questioning, Jones admitted to robbing the Citgo after planning the crime with Rice. The two were going to split the proceeds from the robbery.
The woman was not involved in the crime and later released.
Jones was arrested and charged with robbery, while Rice was arrested and charged with principal to commit robbery.
