Fort Myers Mastersingers celebrate 10th Anniversary with the complete Messiah

One of the most celebrated oratorios of all time will be performed in its entirety at First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs on April 2 at 7:30 p.m., and at Faith United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 3 at 4 p.m.

The Fort Myers Mastersingers will present Handel’s “Messiah” in a special Lenten performance with full orchestra, conducted by Mastersingers Artistic Director Jeff Faux.

Soloists for the performance will be soprano, Lorraine Murphy; mezzo soprano, Mary Creswell; tenor Darren Anderson and bass, Jeffrey Snider.

The complete Messiah is rarely heard. Written in three parts, Part One is usually heard during Advent season. Part Two chronicles Christ’s passion, resurrection, ascension, and the proclamation to the world of the Christian message. Part Three is based primarily upon the events chronicled in the Book of Revelation.

Previous major choral works presented by The Mastersingers included Verdi’s Requiem, “A German Requiem” by Johannes Brahms and “Elijah,” By Felix Mendelssohn. The 70 voice group is celebrating its 10th anniversary season .
