Lily & Co. donates necklace for Edible Mollusk Festival raffle

This sterling silver double strand of pearls, featuring a teardrop-shaped mother of pearl with aquamarine beads and blue topaz accents, is the raffle prize for this year's Edible Mollusk Festival.

If you are headed north prior to April 16, you can still help The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum raise funds for future exhibits by purchasing raffle tickets for this year’s featured jewelry item.

Lily and Co. Jewelers has donated an exquisite necklace, a sterling silver double strand of pearls featuring a large teardrop-shaped mother of pearl with aquamarine beads and blue topaz accents. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the museum: one for $10 or three for $25. The raffle winner does not need to be present.

The Second Annual Edible Mollusk Festival and Oyster Eating Contest will be held on April 16 at Timbers Restaurant and Fish Market, located at 703 Tarpon Bay Road, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum and Timbers.

Oyster eaters may be sponsored by either individuals or corporations. The cost of sponsorship is $250. If you would like to sponsor an oyster eater but none of your friends are up for the challenge, the event committee will be happy to try to identify one for you. Other corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Oyster eaters are given 60 seconds to down as many raw oysters as their stomach can hold. Sponsors will be acknowledged in all event communication and media coverage prior to, during, and after the event. Clay Miller of NBC-2 did such a fantastic job as the 2010 event master of ceremonies (as well as eating lots of oysters), he has been invited to emcee the 2011 Edible Mollusk Festival.

Come cheer for fellow islanders, eat delicious sea food prepared by Timbers, attend mollusk and seafood preparation workshops, or enjoy a beer. Children will be treated to face painting and arts and crafts activities.
