Captiva Civic Association ABC Sale raises $96,000

By Staff | Mar 16, 2011

Chapel By-the-Sea Reverend Tom and Linda Nyman arrive in style at the 45th annual ABC Sale last Saturday.

Last Saturday, the Captiva Civic Association hosted their 45th annual ABC Sale Dinner & Auction at The Sanctuary — and might have broken a few CCA records.

“The 2011 ABC event was a resounding, smashing success,” said CCA Executive Director Paul Garvey. “Over 110 members and guests attended the live auction consisting of 21 items that brought in $96,150 in funding for the CCA Foundation and Captiva Civic Association. This event also raised $3,000 for the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation.”

The highpoint of the evening, Garvey said, was the final auction item, titled, “A Whole Lot of Love.”

“This was a surprise innovation for the auction this year and recommended by auctioneer Tommy Williams. This item alone raised $38,500 in just three minutes toward replacing the roofs on the Captiva Community Center and library building, in addition to the Captiva Resident Deputy House,” Garvey said. “Mr. Williams is extraordinarily talented as an auctioneer and was well received by the members, guests and corporate sponsors in attendance. The $38,500 roof funds will surely give the CCA Foundation a great leap forward toward funding a $100,000 — sorely needed — building improvement project later this year.”

While the CCA is proud to say they pulled off a fantastic 45th ABC anniversary, the event was also a tribute to the CCA’s 75th anniversary — and, of course, none of it would have been possible without many people working behind the scenes.

“The CCA owes a very special thank you to ABC Event Chairman Jack Cunningham and the entire ABC Planning Committee, and most importantly, to the CCA members who generously support and recognize the 75 years of valued service the CCA provides to the Captiva community,” Garvey said.

The Captiva Civic Association is located at 11550 Chapin Lane.
